be named a victim?
A child gets shot during an illegal "sideshow" getting "hyphy."
Is he a victim? Does his family have a right to hold a fundraiser to pay for his funeral?
I seem to think something is fishy with this and I would like to know your thoughts or opinions. Thank you.

go here....http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hyphy
It's basically racing with people standing on moving cars and dancing while holding on to them while they're moving....

So to the people that say it's okay, would you say it was okay for the family of the man waiting in the car for his friend who just robbed and killed the liquor store owner? I think that would require a lot of nerve....hmm?

I left out that the man in the car waiting for his buddy was shot by the other liquor store owner while fleeing the scene.

If he is a child, he's not responsible for the criminality or otherwise of his activities, least of all getting hyphy. He is certainly a victim; however, his family are perpetrators and deserve punishment.

any one who dies or is affected by a crime is considered a victim......a sideshow is illegal and is considered a crime in oakland. Even if he was involved with the sideshow, someone shot him which is a murder........I don't see why he cant have a fundraiser to cover the cost of the funeral because he is a victim. the only thing in the way here is whether the city has a rule about fundraisers only can apply for a cause such as a disaster or for no-profits, or for a good, i dont know but.....this sounds like an ethics question, if someone who is involved with a crime (sideshows-----i dont think being hyphy is a crime) and then get killed by someone........should their family get to hold a fundraiser.since both sides are wrong.....Look at who is preventing the fundraiser and question why.........if u can't then I know u can hold a bar b que and people who attends will donate money regardless.

I'm not understanding how someone gets shot in the process of doing this, but say for sake of argument that either way, they are killed because of their "hyphy".
They are still dead. They still need to be buried. So raising the money to pay for the burial should be allowed.
Obviously they have been a victim of much more than this to end up in this situation. So I would say that they are just as much a victim, if not more so than anyone else is.
Think about this; if a daredevil such as Evil Knievel had have pulled such a stunt (in his youth or otherwise) and been killed, would he be a victim? What makes the difference? Where do you draw the line?
A victim is "an unfortunate person who suffers from some adverse circumstance". Someone who is killed prematurely, whether by accident, or at the hands of another, is still a victim. Because they are still dead.

People have the right to do whateve they want.
You don't have to donate any money so why let it bother you.
The person who died still has a family that loved him no matter what happened, and they want to be able to hold a funeral how is that fishy?? Funerals are expensive.

Anyone participating in something illegal and gets hurt (that means both doing _and_ watching willingly) brought it on themselves. That's why we have the Darwin Awards.
The only victims are those who didn't want to pariticipate and are affected by the idiots' actions.
Q: What are the last words a redneck says before he dies?
A "Hey! Watch this!"

what are you talking about????? Depends I guess on what he was doing illegally....if he was attempting to kill someone and the police or someone else shot him then he isn't a victim but someone say shoplifting and shot by a stray bullet would be a victim because that isn't an offense to be shot for.

This isn't really an ethical issue.
Do you sympathize with the family or not? Not the kid...
the family. Its the family that will have to pay.
Yes, I would help out the parents of murderers and
thieves ...
