The United States is the richest nation in the world when it comes to overall wealth. However, the United States is not the richest nation in per capita wealth.

One way used to measure the richest country is to divide the GNP (Gross National Product), with the population of that country. We can see though,that there is more then a little bias in this statistical measure and you have every right to question it. It is an absurdity that Luxembourg has such a high rating when it's population is about the smallest in any nation of the world.

Try to fit 300 million people (ie the population of USA) into Luxembourg, and let's see how rich they are!

Possibly... depends on how you are defining rich. If you're talking on a per capita basis, then a smaller country would be worth more and you'd also have to consider the wealth of the gulf states such as UAE, Yemen, and Qatar. If you're talking natural resources, then the US is much more wealthy.

Luxembourg does have the highest per capita income.
but it also has a very small population.

I'd say No. The USA is flooded with Fossil fuels, which makes us appear very rich and powerful. But I can't really be sure. Luxenbourge has a bigger "GDP per capita" than the US, but my opinion stands :P

Maybe it is the country of the middle east like Saudi Arabia or Dubai. Now that oil is expensive, they are more rich than ever
