the lakers have always had this certain disease where they defeat the elite teams in the nba or teams over 500. consistently and lose to teams under 500. such as New Orleans 2x, Charlotte 2x, Toronto, Atlanta, Seattle 2x, Memphis 2x, etc. this year. They are just not ready. as great as Kobe is, he still cant do everything. Lamar odom is playin well this season but the lakers still lack defense. I mean THEY ARE REALLY BAD ON DEFENSE. When Kwame Brown returns, which will be another 4-6 weeks, their defense might steadily improve but as of it right now, THEY ARE STRUGGLING.

Every NBA team struggles at some point. The Lakers are a good team and well coached and will easily bounce back, especially anytime you have a player named Kobe Bryant. The Raptors are a good team and are over .500 now. Look for the Lakers to upset someone in the 1st round of the playoffs. I sure hope my Mavericks don't have to play them.

Well they are a young team and are a WORK IN PROGRESS. They will get better as they gain more experience under their belt and learn from their mistakes.Their strong play against elite team shows that they have the potential to compete with the players of the league, they just have to work on improving little things sch as transitional defense or whatnot.

i dont think the lakers defense is that bad and i dont think brown coming back will make that much of an impact. them losing to subpar teams is just a sign that the lakers arent an elite team yet. when the lakers play a good team, they are pumped up for it, just like any other team, but when they play a team they know they can beat, they arent as pumped or focused and let their guard down.

i watched the piston and laker game( im a laker fan) and their defense is so weak. Everytime the pistons run for a layup or a dunk, its in. the pistons dunked like 50 times on them. When they lakers go into for a layup they get stripped. When they try to pass, they get stolen.
There was 3 laker guys in the key, and a piston guy just ran in and dunked on all of them. ~~

It's called playing to the level. When the opposition is tough, they rise to the challenge. When opposition is, well, sub-par, they follow ship and sink too.
Their defense isn't that bad, actually, but it is pretty mediocre. They rank just below Phoenix in points allowed.
