I've heard that the Core 2 Duo is the best, but I was wondering if it's true or not. Also what are the other better models? Also what is a Core Duo (whitout the 2)? Is it not as good? Also is a Core Centrino Duo any good?

I was looknig at this deal:

Core 2 Duo, 1gb ram, 80gb hdd, with a bunch of other extras. Would you say that this is worth $1,700 Australian (which is US$1,320)?

Thanks a lot!!

Which Core 2 Duo model? The C2D are the newest and BEST processors on the market. The others just don't stack up. I don't think that's a good deal for that computer. This is not just hype, this is based on facts.

It depends on what you want to do with it and what you are allowed to do with it.
Intel announced last week they have a new chip in the works that is not Silica based, some fancy stuff they made or Military made by mistake.
But for now, the Core 2 Duo is very good, I would add 1g of RAM, $119-$229 USD , depending on where or who you buy from.
The Core2 Duo is Home Use, standard install stuff.

The Nehalem is going to be the one that screams.

For a laptop that is a very nice setup, but add a G of RAM ,or three if you plan on using Vista.
That box would run Ubuntu Server Linux easy.
Have Fun!

no, not good. definitely go with a dual core. the centrino simply means it has built in wi-fi. is this for a laptop?

for the money, this had better come with awesome graphics, but still seems expensive
