Paul states that "on the way to the place of prayer we met a slave-girl possessed by the spirit of devination." Acts 16:16
Yet, the Christians now state that devination is impossible. That those claiming to have this talent are "witches or worse." I suppose this is because they never really study there own Books, but instead take the words of there leaders as "gospel." They also become paranoid and aggressive when confronted with true information like this.
Since their is a wee bit of leeway in the new testament, lets go to the Torah. The witch of Endor cured Miriam of leprosy with an incantation. I suppose, by Christian standards, the Witch of Endor should have been murdered for curing Miriam.
Some of you might want to actually read Acts 16:17/18 before answering as the only reason Paul cast out the spirit of the slave girl was that she exasperated him by following him and his companion.
16:17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These
men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us
the way of salvation.
16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved,
turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of
Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

I see your point and I appreciate it, however, I must point out there is no such thing as "white magic". Please do not be deceived by wannabe witches trying to tell you there is a difference in the rainbow affair of magic categories. This ain't a bag of skittles sweetie.

Magic is magic....white, black, green, polka dotted whathaveya'. Magic by its very definition is a tool, not a flavor. Should you use this tool to dig in the ground, you call it a shovel...yes yes that is figurative...but the point is clear.

Thanks!
Illyanna, your pagan point of prowess. :P

The only thing more humorous to me than the inaccurate original post is the anti-christian sentiments that swell after one misled passage. We deny no such thing! Christians (as a whole) do not deny the existence of divination, or astrology, or even witchcraft, for that matter. God even says there are answers in the stars. He also says...don't mess with it. Atheists cry loudly about Christians trying to impose their religion upon them. Yet you have no problem imposing your condemnation of it. Saying Christians don't read the Bible is number one, a broad claim, and number two, ignorant and ridiculous. The christian religion is based upon the Bible. Bibles in many editions sell more than any other book of all time. People die smuggling bibles into Muslim nations where Christians worship in hiding. And are often beheaded if they are discovered. The author of the question (really more of a statement) is obviously consumed with his own hate for Christians and seeks affirmation with his brothers in magick. I used to work at a very popular metaphysical store, selling herbs, and candles and spells, and books on divination and witchcraft. I know vampires and witches and lycanthropes and every manner of following people use to fill a godless void. I know them still, respect their beliefs, as they respect mine. Some of you will not advance no matter the craft, because of closed minds and preconceived judgements...flung by others like tree dwelling, poo flinging primates. **snicker**

I am wondering in all this time, that Christians always jump to call someone a heretic and claim someone is going to hell, if a person does any kind of magick, but from what is written about jesus in the bible, doesn't that sound a lot like magick to other people? Healing people's illnesses just by touching them, walking on water, even returning from the dead?
Or has no one ever given this much though before, because you are too caught up in your own ideals and judging others?

I find it a bit odd that Christians deny it now. There have been so many times that I have met a Christian looking for Tarot cards at the bookstore and asking my opinion on which would be the best one!
Once, a lady who asked me what would be a good deck to use, mentioned that she was recommended to get them from someone else in her Sunday School class. Guess they don't consider it wrong if they are using them themselves. Or maybe they just don't read their own sources.

From Lillith (who is mentioned in the Bible) to the witch of Endor, there are signs of magic in the Bible. However, God treats mankind as if he were "too young" to use magic and keeps him away from it so he doesn't get hurt. At least more so than a sense of vengence. Its like man isn't mature enough yet.

You've done some great research but maybe in the incorrect spirit, uh... frame of mind. I don't know many "Christians" who are in denial of the existence of such things, whatever they are to be referred to as - in your words "white magick". What you seem to have left out were all the passages (and there are many) where such practices are referred as an ABOMINATION and displeasing to God. So, no please don't mistake 'rejection' as denial - I, and most all the folks I praise the Lord Jesus Christ with know these "practices" to be very real... but in obedience to God the Father - "we don't play that".

Look not for consistancy in the word of an organized
religion.

You will not find it and you will do yourself pain
in the process.

That isn't what religion is for. Quoting scripture
may give one spiritual enlightenment ... it may
even help you with cross word puzzles, but it
will ***NEVER*** answer issues of fact.

I have studied the Bible and read through it many times. I never once said devination is impossible. But the bible does warn us not to medal w/ these things. If it was a good spirit to have would Paul have cast it out?

What Christians think or don't think about the reality of magick is exactly as irrelevant as what they think or don't think about the reality of evolution.

Some people still believe the earth is flat. If they can't accept the truth, that's their problem.

Blessed be.
