You need to use Nero or Roxio burning software, you can get it from Staples or Office Depot for about $20.

First Uninstall your current burning software, then install your new software.

Make sure the type of disc you are using has never been burned before, and that it is clean and new.

You should check to see if your cd burner software is still installed on your computer. Was it a temporary download? Like for 30 or 60 days? If they burned cd's with it, and you used to, it might be an upgrade that you need.
Try reinstalling windows xp to repair it.

hi Deb. You did no longer say the form of CDs which you have been making use of. in case you have been making use of Sony, which could be your problem. while Sony began getting them made in Asia to keep funds the huge-unfold went right down to the degree the place a musician could infrequently use them anymore. while you're making use of Sony, end making use of them and use something else. i began out making use of Verbatim and in no way returned had an issue. If of direction you're making use of something else and the subject persists, you're able to need a clean burner. I was hoping i became waiting to assist somewhat. Cheers, Eric.

try other Cds. Use CD-R some CD drivers will only write on CD-R or CD+R. Though they can read DVD-R and DVD+R, they won't be able to write on it. (like my laptop here... *grabs hammar*)
