Well some practitioners will do a sonogram at the first appointment, or within the first week to confirm pregnancy. Also, your insurance coverage has a lot to do with how many you will receive. Your baby's sex can usually be determined most accurately after the 19th week, but sometimes the baby does not cooperate, and if your insurance doesn't approve additional ultrasounds without medical emergency, you might have to just wait it out. If you are labeled "high risk" you usually get an ultrasound at each appointment, but I would rather have a safe pregnancy than a lot of sonograms.

I always got my first sonograms at around 8 weeks gestation. I found out the sex of my daughter when I was 19 weeks and 3 days and found out the sex of my son at 20 weeks and 4 days. They can usually tell at about 19 weeks what you are having, maybe 18 weeks, but 19 weeks is the norm.

U can have an ultrasound to "check" on the baby earlier but if u want to do it to find out the sex it needs to be around 20 weeks.

The first sonigram depends on the dr and if u are high risk. my friend had her first sonigram at her first appt. It was an internal sonigram. To detect sex??? The earliest would probably be 15 weeks but it will depend on your dr

My sonographer asked me at my 20 week ultrasound if I wanted to know. I don't think the genatils form until around that time.

Even then, it isn't guarenteed. The baby could have its legs crossed, or the sonographer could get it wrong. They aren't infallible.
