The spotting may be due to it recently being placed. How long ago did you have it inserted? I don't remember having spotting when I first had it put in, but that was five years ago. Also, please don't think that just because you have an IUD, it's impossible to get pregnant. I'm pregnant now and the baby was conceived while using the Merina IUD. You can take a test, but if the spotting between periods is abnormal for you, you may want to go to your doctor (who will do a pregnancy test when you give a urine sample anyway) just to make sure one way or another. If you are, your doctor will go over what happens if they leave it in during the pregnancy or if they take it out, but normally they'll recommend you have it taken out. Best of luck.

No, break through bleeding is normal with the marina IUD. But, if you want just the added assurance, get a pregnancy test to see if you are. If you DO get pregnant while the IUD is in (with the marina it is usually towards the end of the 5 years that a women may get pregnant) then you need to get medical help ASAP because you need close observation from an OB/GYN. If pregnancy occurs then they will either remove the IUD (which can cause a miscarriage because it can hit the developing baby and cause it to disconnect with the uterus) or they even may leave the IUD in, although with the marina you have to worry about the hormones which can harm the baby too, so I would think that they would probably remove the IUD. Your dreams maybe coming from an over-active conscience and a sub-conscience desire of wanting a baby. I say this not to be discouraging, because you DO need to listen to your body.
What I would do, if I were you, is get a pregnancy test just to make sure.

That particular IUD has hormones in it to gradually reduce your periods so eventually you may not even have one. The questions should be when did you have the IUD placed? If it is a brand new IUD and it's not painful just a bit of spotting you should be fine. Your Dr' will have you scheduled for a check up after 3 months to make sure that it is still correctly placed etc... if you don't have an appt for that yet make one, if you are having pain (ie. not menstural pms pain, like infection pain) with the IUD along with the spotting I would call the Dr. But most likely you are just spotting because you have an IUD in, and just like when you start any form of BC you will have a couple of months while your body gets used to it. If you have serious concerns don't hesitate to call your Dr because if you think something is wrong...sometimes your intution is right. Good Luck!

My OB/GYN told me that with the IUD you will abnormal periods for almost a full year. You could have a period for 6 weeks straight! Also a major side effect is spotting. The pink discharge is probably just the spotting blood mixed with normal discharge. You could take a test to ease your mind, but it sounds like your pregnancy dreams are just a result of your fears about being pregnant, and not actually because you are pregnant.

I also have the mirena IUD.
I've experienced the same symptoms...they're normal.
It will take a full year for your body to adjust and after that your period should stop or be very light.
If your dreaming about being pregnant it's probably because your stressing over the possiblilty. Call your Dr. if you have questions and ask them to perform a pregnancy test.
Better safe than sorry.

You are not pregnant. Having an IUD will cause spotting and spontaneous periods, kind of like the Depo shot.

I had an IUD for a number of years and my understanding is that when something is in the uterus, the uterus will not allow anything else to embed in there (fetus). I had a discharge that was not normal thru out the entire time I had mine. I was told it was my body's way of trying to get rid of the foreign object that was in there.
