My goal is to make the locak community college's basketball team next year. I'm a senoir in high school and made the jv team twice but quit because i didnt to play. I didn't play either varsity year. I am about 5'6", very fast, and have a decent shot. I max out bench pressing at 130 lbs. I'm not very big. I really want to play for the team.

How good do i have to be? What can i do to improve as an all around player? Shooting, passing, dribbling, conditioning, strenght, etc...

I have about 5 months or so...

And please don't shoot me down...im only looking for advice.

not to be rude or anythign, u say u are as good as u are why didnt u play?? did u have a fallout with the coach or something?

5'6 is really short for basketball, what is ur vert??

first u need to work on strenght because u lack height, and work on 3 pointers becuz clearly u dont go "hard in the paint"

maybe try a different sport? Soccer?
waaay more fun than Basketball and if you are fast all u need is coordination and ur set

First off, I don't want to shoot you down but if you only made the jv team twice, which means you missed a year?

Second off, you made a huge mistake by quitting the team two times. Even if you are good enough to play varsity, do you think the coach will keep you on the team and put you on varsity when you have a history of quitting the team?

Now to your question.....about wanting to be good enough to play basketball for a local community college. I like that goal of yours. The sky is the limit.

To do this, I would run at least 2 miles a day, and lift 5 times a week. Do arms/upper body/chest, legs, arms/upper body/chest, legs, you get the pattern......Also hit the basketball gym whenever you can. Get together with other guys on the team and play competitive 3 on 3 games. It will help. Good luck bro

First of all, it's not going to be easy. If you had trouble sticking it out in high school, college is only gonna get harder. So first thing's first - you have to decide that you absolutely love playing the game and are willing to give up a lot of things to do it (job, some social life stuff - not all, sleep). The first thing would be to really get in the weight room as the guys have said below. As for basketball - if you are that little you are going to have to be one hell of a ballhandler. There are a lot of stationary drills to work on, but also make sure that you find some full court, full speed dribbling drills as well (the game isn't played in one spot). Next, I know you say you are fast, but that's only part of it - you are going to have to have great footwork. Work on getting to the rim from the 3 point line in one dribble and taking different shots (probably variations of the floater for you). Really work on taking a big, quick first step. Also, work on taking game type shots at game speed - don't just get in a gym, put up 100 threes and think that you have done something. You are probably going to need to get someone to workout with, as well. Overall, just to get a shot off, you are going to have to be very quick and crafty. I should probably let you know just in case that you are going to have to be very fundamental and solid at your size - unless you happen to be the second coming of Earl Boykins. Good luck. It's not impossible, but you are going to have to work your butt off.

well...I cant really say because I dont know how good u are. There were a couple guys on my high school team who were short and some of the better players on the team. I would work on strengh...becuase it can build up pretty fast..I went from 125 bench to 175 from may to august one year. Always work on shooting, because the shorter u are the more u need to rely on shooting. /]

Just take it that you have to be very very good: go for it! sky is the limit! work out, practise hard, as though you want to be in the States team! good luck!
