My son (5 months) doesn't sleep peacefully. We lay him down on his back but he'll turn over onto his tummy while sleeping, then it seems like he can't get into a comfortable position and moves around so much, he wakes himself up. Then we have to wake up and rock him back to sleep. If we leave him alone, he'll just cry and cry, and won't stop. This happens a few times a night EVERY night for the past month and a half. Has anyone else experienced this?

My son did the exact thing, once babies learn something new it's like they keep doing it but don't know how to handle it. There's nothing you can do really but let them get over it. Once they get used to this developmental stage, then they'll be comfortable enough with it that they can rest peacefully. Only until they learn something else new!

Put him to sleep on tummy. A LOT of babies are not back sleepers and in other countries tummy sleeping is more common. This is a cultural thing, not some authoritative only way to put a baby down.

Yes I have experienced it. First, he knows that when he wakes up, he will get to be rocked, so he has you on that one. You might need to ween that back a little (I love to rock my kids, don't get me wrong). Place tightly rolled up blankets that will not unroll on either side of him to keep him still and won't let him roll over. Mine always rolled to their backs and got mad because they could not roll back over. I just rolled them over and patted their back for a time and just ssshhh'd them and they could used to that.

Buy a sleep positioner. First years sells a good one that has airflow so the baby doesn't get hot. We bought ours at target.

Please do NOT put your baby on his tummy to sleep!! Have you ever heard of SIDS? They make wedges, or positioners to help the baby stay in place (on his back). Please take a look at my link to see what I am talking about!
