That sucks. We can spend billions to secure Iraqi's who want us dead, but can't even help our own. These kind of stories kill me. We are so overwhelmed by international image of generosity we overlook our own citizens.

Just go get her.

You have to understand that FEMA, The Red Cross, etc. can only provide temporary assistance and housing. It would be impossible, as well as unfair to the taxpayers, for them to provide/give permanent assistance.
You may think it is unfair for me to say this but I think your mother is being unreasonable. I am almost her age and disabled and I would certainly have appreciated any help I could have gotten if I were in her situation , and I would not complain that I had to move. You should just tell your mom that she has to move, give her her options, and if she chooses to be homeless then that is HER decision.
I'm not heartless but that's the way I see it.

FEMA housing is temporary help only. She will have to move out eventually. I would check to see if there is some way to get the government to help in re-locating her

You'll get the brass ring if you can figure out how these people can be moved back home again. Seems someone wants that land and is sacrificing those Americans to get it.
