First call a certified day care center and ask their rates. Then ask around to find what babysitting rates are for the neighbors teen to babysit. Then ask her what she expects. Pay her well, this is your child she will care for, and if you don't pay well, she will make herself unavailable to you when you need her. Pay somewhere between a day care and a teen babysitter. She will most likely give your child more love and attention than any daycare could. She should get more than the teenager down the street since she is more qualified with much more experience. I hope this helps you both to come to an agreement that everyone is comfortable with. Good Luck!

I am a stay at home mom with my own home day care business.
here is what I charge:
full time - 5 days a week over 4hours a day $125/week
part time - less than 4 hours a day is $20/day
full time part week - is less than five days yet more than 4 hours a day $35/day
for all children that eat table food, I provide all food.
for all infants, parents provide everything needed. diapers, food, formula and obviously breast milk, as I have not lactated in years and that is just gross to think about. LOL
I also charge a $25 registration fee, and have a contract that is legally binding.
I also claim all money paid to me on my taxes so that way the parents can get the tax break for paying for daycare.
I'm in NC, so I don't know what the going rate is where you are. Hope this helps.

Check with area child care facilities. Just because she's a stay at home mom does not mean you should pay less. If it's someone you trust and will take good care of your baby, how do you put a price on that? The only way is the market standards like any other job.

I think it depends on how old her child/ren are.
I'm a SAHM but do babysitting in the mornings. I charge about half of what it would cost for a babysitter without a child.
(Please note that I'm in Australia, so I don't know about wages and stuff over there) I charge her $7 an hour. She was only prepared to pay up to $12 an hour, so I think thats reasonable.

I live in AZ, and i pay 20 per day for the first child 4 yrs and 10 for the 2nd child who is 1 yr. She usually watches them for appx 8 hrs per day, 2 days a week. I pay her cash under the table, no taxes, and bring food for the younger one. Hope that helps. Pretty much the same when we were in San Diego, 20/day.

Firstly never have a baby sitter at the age no matter what u pay it will be far less to lose some amount of your money to give the love and care that the child deserve, unless u can have your parents or the husband parents to look after
let her initial growing up with u till about 5 then u can decide

you shouldn't pay her less because she's a stay at home mom... i realize she's going to be at home anyway. but do you want her to give your child a lesser quality of care b/c she is not working in an institution? do you not know that your child will receive more individual attention from this woman than he/she would from a daycare? you should be ashamed to qualify your question with "if she's a stay at home mom"... i don't know what the rates run in southern California... but I would say pay her what you would be willing to accept. that should be fair.

As much as you would pay any babysitter or maybe more considering she is taking the time out of her day to not only watch her kid(s) but yours too.

I don't see how her being a stay at home mom plays into the senario. It's not like "well she's already at home with her kids so its not any harder to watch mine too." You should pay her what you would have to pay a daycare, its the same service.

Minimum wage is 7.75 an hour, but you are in a very expensive area. $10 a hour is likely close to the going rate.
