I have been getting massages for 25 years now and I am fairly large breasted (42D), but there are many women bigger than I am.

Anyway, I had a massage at a resort recently and the pain from lying on my breasts was unbearable.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't understand why don't they build some female friendly tables with some sort of indentations? We are not all build flat! Seems these tables were built for men.

I hope I didn't do permanent damage, I was in pain for 3 days!!

I wonder why this particular table had me in such excrutiating pain?

I am past menopause so it's not that it was before my period or anything.

Any experiences or advice on what to do or bring next time?

I don't know why this particular table hurt me so much when others hadn't... I'm so curious.

When you say pillow to support your mid section, can you tell me more?

Should I have a pillow above and below?

hmm.. the pain could be caused by deeper than usual work or the therapist applied too much pressure to a nerve.. they make pillows specifically for larger breasted women then elevate the mid and upper chest with indents for the breast.. these are pricey and aren't needed for every massage so some think the investment isn't worth it another option for you is to request 2 small towels to be rolled and placed under each shoulder while you are lying on your stomach...or you could bring your own incase they are unprepared..hope this helps

Did the therapist not put a pillow to support your mid section? I don't know if it is just for larger breasted women, but any professional massage, that I have had, always has a pillow to support my mid section. From that point I always have time to adjust my breasts to be in a comfortable position. I know that if I had to send a long time on a flat hard massage table, I would be in severe pain both in my breasts and in my back.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but if you have been getting them for years, you should have an idea of what works for your body. Also I find that there is a big differnce between a theraputic massage and the ones done for spas, etc...

Both of my massage therapists (one male and one woman who ended up having a breast reduction - so she knows....) alway place a pillow under my stomach. That lifts my back, keeps it level and makes it easy for them to work on as well as makes me comfortable. They also put one under my ankles. I never really gave it a tought until you mentioned it. Maybe the mid section pillow may just be used on women or women who are busty???? When I turn over on to my back, to work on my shoulders and neck, they take the pillow out from my midsection and add it to the one at my feet so my feet are propped up and comfy.

Is that not what yours does?? If not, suggest it..... I alway have to adjust them, I keep telling her that after 10 years of seeing her she still seems to think I am taller than I am. I just pull them up so the mid section pillow actually sits more under my rib cage and stomach and takes pressure off my bust. I am 38 G. Thing if they can't MAKE one since we are all differnt sizes and shapes but your therapist should adapt it to fit your body!!

Hope that helps..

there are tables built with cut outs for large breast, but i have never known of any therapist to use them.

it is odd that one table could cause much more pain than any others. could have been a different or lack of cushioning than what you are accustomed to. was it just your breast that hurt for 3 days or was it across your midback too? having support under your ankles will help take pressure off your back.

I always ask if a large chested client needs any towels to place under armpits/above chest during a massage. normally the client rolls the towels or folds them in half. we also have clients to lay on their sides if laying face down is too uncomfortable. that works better for us than having a pillow under the breast.

I am also a D but have not found that it caused me any long term pain although it has been uncomfortable at times. I agree they should have womanly shaped tables...adjustable for size! lol
Seeing as you were in so much pain, maybe its worth talking to your doctor about it.
