Punter is a little bit safer that Kicker. I think Vinatieri was tackled once and hit once in the Super Bowl. A lot of times, you see players (especially in lower levels) that will do ANYTHING to block a FG, especially if it is a tight game. On the other hand, the rush against punters is a lot more lackluster, and there will be people that drop back and don't even go after you.

If you wanted to play an actual position with action, (not to demean the kicking squads,) I would guess that Free Safety is the safest, incidentally. The only way to get hurt playing coverage is to fall the wrong way, and FSs are in position to make a play already. That means that they don't have to contort themselves the way that Corners would.

On offense, there is no "safe" position. WR is probably the safest, but even they are prone to injuries. QB can be safe if you have a good, consistent pocket, but only if you stay very aware of your surroundings.

Hunter Smith currently has the safest job in the NFL. Do the Colts really even need a punter?

I would say the second would be Jim Sorgi. Who you ask? The Colts back up QB. Peyton hasn't missed a game in his 9 year carreer. I think Sorgi is the only person on the field less than Smith in the NFL.

(and if Sorgi ever does take the field the game better either be over or be meaningless or the Colts are in trouble)

Whatever position Ryan Leaf played. As a diehard Chargers fan, all I choose to remember about him was sitting on the sidelines making boatloads of cash. So both physically and financially, it's the Ryan Leaf position.

If not that, probably a kicker of some sort, because if anyone touches you they get a penalty as long as you act like it really, really hurt (you know, just like soccer players)

Kicker or Punter. Those guys just boot the ball and most of the time aren't touched and don't have tackle anyone usually. It is also a penalty if a kicker or punter is hit. The rules are so strict that kicker or punters who just fall when a guys is near them, but didn't even hit them, will get penalyzed.

I would have to say placeholder for the kicker. When a kicker is roughed, most of the time it is pretty violent. They kick and instantly they are open to be killed. One leg is on the ground and the other high in the air. If they are hit, they come down really hard and have the chance of tearing their leg from someone landing on them or hitting them. And for a kicker, they need their kicking leg.

Definitely the place-kicker or -- if you will -- the kickoff specialist. Billy Cundiff was the New Orleans Saints' kickoff specialist this year, all he had to do was kick the ball off... no punting, no field goals. So Billy Cundiff definitely had the safest position in the NFL last year.

Place Kicker is definatly the safest position, you don't really see people getting through to the kicker during a fieldgoal to block it.

Punter can be harsh because more people get through, and your leg goes higher, if someone gets through when your legs in the air and hits you, it's going to be a nasty fall and a nasty injury.

Who says kickers are safe?? Don't you remember the guy (Martin Gramatica maybe?) who, upon jumping up and down to celebrate a winning field goal, blew out his knee?
