how can i check how fast my hamster runs each day

You could make it a bit simpler and check how often or how much time your hamster spends on its wheel.
If you really wanted to go about checking how fast it runs each day, you would have to probably count how many revolutions the wheel makes in a certain amount of time.

Mark one spoke of his running wheel with coloured tape, that way you can count how many times the wheel goes around in a minute. Measure the diameter of the wheel, then calculate the circumference. From these figures, you can calculate how fast he's going.

hook up a bike speedometer to the wheel. They work with magnets so you should be able to do it. You will probably need some tigh wraps to attach.
