This semester, any advice from people who have taken online courses?

I all depends on you as an individual. I've taken about 7 online classes and liked most of them. They're very convienent and depending on the teacher, some what self paced. You can do the work the time of day that works for you and your schedule. Beware however, you must be self-motivated and expect to visit the class site everyday to a few times a week depending on the teacher. I also found it better, as I'm a pretty shy person, and I feel more comforatable communicating on the message boards and through e-mail. There is definitely not as much personal contact with your peers or professor, but usually you can plan to meet up with the teacher if you have an issue or problem you'd rather talk in person about. ..All in all, I've really liked my experience with online courses. I think there are a few quizzes on the net that can help you determine if online classes are right for you.

I take corespondence courses through my university. Just do your reading and your assignments and don't be afraid to contact your instructor if you need help. I find that online/distance courses are better than lecture courses sometimes simply because I can do them on my own time whenever I feel like it and I don't have to deal with the idiocy of my peers. I have found that my reading skills have improved. I used to be much more of an aural learner, I can play everything I hear back like a tape recorder, but have since had to adapt my learning to reading, reading and more reading which will come in handy in future courses whether distance or on campus. It's good and English 101 is easy, so you should be able to adapt just fine incase you want to take future courses this way. Enjoy!

I think it really turns out to be individually preferences. Personally I did not like online courses. I have already taken English 101 and I got good grades, but I dont think I could have got the good grades without spending time with my teacher and peers.

If you have good reading/writing skills, I don't see why not. Just make sure that your university will accept the credit hours.
Also--think about taking the proficiency exam instead--its done in one session and is a whole lot cheaper. what you don't want to do, however, is take advanced or major courses online (unless they are conducted by your university/department)--you'll miss too uch and it will hurt you in the long run.
