No washing machines do.

No, the washer does (and has been letting the dryer take the blame for years). Since the clothes are wet, most people aren't paying attention and trying to match the wet socks before they put them in the dryer.

Yes they do but they are not the only things that do! The next largest consumer of socks is your clothes washer! Then your Dog, then just the other day my cat was going to eat a sock! she was tossing it and playing with it just as she does with Moths and June bugs that get in the house. Then last week under my bed there was a group of dust bunnies that had one of my socks encircled, and were consuming it. I managed to save it but buy the time I found it they had already eaten the heel portion. Here in Texas we wear boots, so this sock was still good after I matched it with one of a different color!

Ooohhhh, I thought no one would ever ask this question!. And yes, there is a sock eating imp/goblin in every washing machine and dryer.

I am a logical person and remember to put socks in the dirty bin by tying them together. Smart huh? The if they get untangled and I lose one sock, I put it in a bag and WAIT for the other pair to show up. Smart again huh?

Guess what I have 2 bags full of unpaired socks anyway.

I'm under the impression that they do. I mean, really, how else would a dryer survive? Do they unplug themselves at night, and hop around your apartment, fixing tuna sandwiches in the kitchen? Really. What a crazy question. Of COURSE the eat socks - and occasionally underpants.

Actually, I think sweatshirts eat the socks. I found a couple socks stuck to the inside of a sweat shirt I put on. Yikes! I thought I gained 10 pounds.

Once when I had a repair man in my home because the dryer wasn't heating he had removed the drum and low and behold were dozens of socks. I pin mine together before they go in the washer.

no they don't. it's actually the little purple man in there that makes all the pockets fill with lent on your jeans and makes the loose change that you just know you got out before you washed them bang around but can never find after you take the clothes out. He eats the socks. But be careful not to piss him off, he keeps mustard in there to put on the socks before he eats them, and if you piss him off, then he will squirt mustard all over your favorite shirt.

the eat one sock per week....if used more than once in two days...three socks.....I know, it's harsh but we don't stand a chance against a military strike from the Dryer Alliance.

Well, it's not really the dryer itself. There is a monster who lives inside the dryer. His name is Argyle the Sock Monster. And it is he who devours your socks.
