The problem is that now a lot of cheap wood imports are coming into the west and you are never quiet sure what your getting.You could try a fugicidal spray available from garden centres and stores.I would be inclined to get rid of it just in case it is fungus that spreads easily to other things in your home.

That sounds like rot, it should not grow on any thing sold for shower use it may even be dry rot and if it is can spread throughout the house.
Personally I would burn it as the spores can spread or take it back to where purchased, and get a plastic one.
It really is not good.

Why don't you get rid of the board and just stand on the floor of the shower.
The floors of showers under boards get really yiccky due to accumulation of soap suds, hairs, skin squames and I don't know what else. My mum uses a bath mat - same problem.

mushroom spores are in the air and love dark damp places , these are harmless remove with anti fungal spray

clean the shower boards with bleach...they might stop popping up...

i think those are the kind that make you trip. put them on a peanut butter sandwhich and eat them. the walls will move ect.
