It could be a number of things...if your nipples are sore, it could be that your baby is not latching properly. Sometimes when you get engorged your breasts can get sore...warm compresses, warm showers, and expressing some milk can help. Are your breasts hard, with red spots, and warm to the touch? Could be mastitis. You should contact a lactation consultant if you think the latch is an issue. If you think it is mastitis, see your doctor. A word of caution about using cabbage compresses for engorgement. I was told by a lactation consultant that if you choose to use them, do so sparingly as it can reduce milk supply.

I know it sounds disgusting but, if you put some raw cabbage leaves on your breasts, they will not be quite so sore...My old hippy mum told me this when I had my oldest ten years ago, it totally works...
also, if you rub some of the breast milk around the sore part, it should give you some relief...
if you do buy something to put on them, Lansinoe cream is one of the best...ask your pharmacist...
Are you chapped and sore? The above suggestions would be a solution...
or are you over engorged, and feel hots spots on your breasts, if that is the case, you may want to see the doctor...
Good luck, feel better soon...

I was in a lot of pain when I first started bfeeding too! The thing tht helped the most was pumping for a few days to let myself heal. Believe it or not the pump was way more gentle than my baby. Once I healed up, I was able to feed her again..
Now, If you mean sore from hardness or too much milk, try taking a couple of warm showers a day or putting a hot water bottle on your breasts. Plus, don't go too long between feedings or you will be in a lot of pain!

Is it your breasts that are sore, or your nipples? If it's your nipples then it's probably because your baby is not latching on correctly and you will have to make sure he latches on properly to avoid sore nipples and ensure she is sucking properly. If it is your breasts that are sore it could be because you are getting engorged or that you possibly have mastitis. If it's a latching problem then I suggest you see a breast feeding specialist for help, they are great and can really help. If it's your breasts that are sore then I would suggest warm showers until you can see your doctor.

What part of your breast is sore?
For sore/cracked nipples I just rubbed some EBM onto them after each feed...
However if it is the actual breast, it could be mastitis (a blocked milk duct) in which case you should try to massage it out, and DEFINATELY see a doctor....
