I have the Paragard IUD (the copper one). I had it put in on Wed. When can I have sex?

I should mention I cannot be on any form of hormonal birth control because I had blood clots in my lung. AND I'm allergic to latex. What luck.

yes you can have sex as soon as you are ready. I had one of these and loved it. The reason I am certain why it hurt you so bad is because you weren't menstruating. I had my first put in while I was and didn't feel anything. Then when I had a reaction to the copper 2 yrs later, it was removed and replaced with Merenia IUD while I wasn't and I laid up crying for almost 2 days and I have a high threshold for pain. There's no hormones to wait for to get into your system so the BC starts immediately. Which is great. Good luck, hope you like it. I did.

IUDs are not for everyone! Look into another form of birth control.

I have merenia (the plastic one) and it wasn't that bad. The cramps that came the next day were worse! My dr. told me I could have sex right away. I absolutley love my IUD! Don't let anyone scare you away from it!
