POWERS is an electrical distribution network simulation code. Electrical networks are modeled by using the Finite Element Method for basic components such as resistors, indicators, and capacitors. All components will be modeled as time-dependent elements. Components other than the basic components can be constructed with the basic component set to build a hierarchial electrical component, such as breakers and generator-buses.

The least-squares form of the finite element method is used in the basic code, POWERS, which results in a symmetric local element formulation. This will minimize the amount of work that has to be performed for the implicit solution method that will be used for stability. The local element matrices for each component will be a 2 X 2 structure and joined together to form a symmetric system matrix, for the electrical network. This approach is similar to using small building blocks to erect a large structure. All the degrees of freedom for the electrical system will be obtained from the matrix inversion and back substitution.

POWERS has a high degree of accuracy and can be easily modified to model or change any electrical network.
