Why do some people regard nostalgic reminiscences as corny.....?

1) they instinctively regard it as a sign of emotional weakness and vulnerability?

2) they have a hard time confronting and/or expressing their own inner feelings and past experiences, hence are uncomfortable detecting them in others?

3) they are culturally conditioned not to show emotions?

4) they believe the past is the past and you should not dwell on it?

5) they are trapped in the subconscious claws of Evolution, organically propelling them into a forward-looking mode of procreation, inherently in conflict with the reflective nature of nostalgia?

6) they see it as a pointless exercise in boredom and futility?

7) they have nothing decent in their own pasts to get nostalgic about?

or

8) None of the above

9 (7/10 :) ) I believe these are a matter of life's fortunes, choices, and experiences. If you have memories which inspire nostalgic reminiscences, treasure them. These are the beneficial best times, which even in hindsight are perceived through a positive prism. They hold no shame, no pain and offer only happiness and hope. There are people who live lives devoid of them, but I sincerely wish everyone would have precious memories to contemplate with fondness and friendship, laughter and love.

Number 7 says it best.Probably because most of them are too young and inexperienced to have anything worth feeling nostalgic about. What a pity our culture worships youth to the point that age,wisdom and experience are considered boring. One can remember and enjoy memories of the past without being accused of dwelling on it.....a healthy respect for the past can shape and protect the future.

Reason being....

We don't wear black parachute pants (not cool)
We don't play Evil Canaveral ~( we don't want them hurt)
We don't ware cowboy boots and run around with six shooters. ( we have been told all the cowboys were bad and guns are really bad)

We don't build tree forts any more. ( we will hurt the trees)

Good music is gone and the rap crap is in....


We have given up so much for the politically correctness's
life style. Kids are not kids any more, they are what we
program them to be. There is no imagination or self
discipline.....

Indicates that we are going to hell in a hand basket,,,
Phil Donahue use to say that and it scared the crap out
of me .."Hell" is now the norm

it is because--- they never clicked their heels three times and said "There's no place like home",

it's because--- they never cried when they heard that Kennedy was assassinated.

it's because they never laughed so hard that tears rolled down their faces watching Moe, Larry and Curly.

it's because they never grew up with the great music of Jimmie Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, and The Righteous Brothers.

Unlike most of us, I guess they are still searching for something that makes them feel........really feel.
