Once those switches reach that point, they generally need to be replaced.

Most hardware stores will carry a generic switch that will work in most ceiling fans.

If you are even slightly handy, this is something a Do-It-Yourselfer can replace.

Be very sure to switch off the breaker before working on anything electrical.

You need to buy a new pull chain and replace old one .
This will involve taking apart part of the fan and unwiring old pull chain make sure you turn off power first

The spring inside is probably broken. You can get replacements for these at Home depot. There's also directions on "how to" in fixing them.
