I'm trying to get pregnant. I haven't had my period since August of 2006 though. I've never had a normal period. Should I just go see my ob gyn or should I go to another type of doctor? Are there any specific tools that can be used like a fertility thermometer to help me see when I'm most fertile?

Go to the ob/gyn. Most do infertility as well as helping pregnant women. If something about your health is too complicated for the ob/gyn, hopefully he or she can refer you to an infertility specialist.

Do get a basal body thermometer if you can and start charting your temperature every morning. I used fertilityfriend.com to record my temps, and took my charts to my doctor - she was very glad I had several months worth for her to review. It helped prove I didn't have a hormone imbalance keeping me from getting pg (took me 2yrs, with regular periods)

The BBT temping will only tell you after you've ovulated, not before. You could also add the ovulation kits to your routine (urine-based test strips), but I personally found them too expensive to use. The kit strips should tell you the day of your ovulation when you are fertile.

The ob/gyn can also do a blood draw on you, and see if your thyroid or something else is affecting your fertility.

Best of luck to you!

Okay you should go see your doctor and talk to them about this especially since you do not have a regular period. Also yes you can buy over the counter ovulation kits to tell you when you are ovulating.

You should see your OBGYN...if further care is needed they will refer you to a specialist. If you haven't had a period since Aug you are probably not ovulating and then would not be able to concieve until you get back to a normal ovulation schedule. I'd say make an appt asap!
