Darkness is the absence of light. Our eyes cannot see into the darkness. We percieve the rainbow colors because the light bounces off of objects and (based on the color absorbed by the materials) we see the colors. We have to have light to see object. There is no color to darkness in our perception.

That is not to say that we cannot see into the darkness. Our technology allows us to see into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums. Equipment can allow us to percieve into blackness. The equipment can turn these invisible spectrums (to us) to a spectrum that we can see. Many animals can see into the ultraviolet spectrum. That is why if you wash clothes in a detergent that contains phosphorus, deer can see you glowing in the woods. It would look like wearing white clothes under a blacklight.

There are not degrees of blackness, it is the absolute absence of light. If you can see grey, then there is some light.

1) Darkness is the absence of light, so it does not have a color.
2) Light from the sun has an infinite number of colors. We just have words for the seven you mentioned, but the solar spectrum is continuous. All frequencies exst.
3) Black is the absence of color - the same as darkness.
4) There is no effect of darkness on the eyes except that the irises open to their maximum extent and the chemicals we need for vision are at maximum concentration. There is no specific effect on the brain. Now the effect on our mind is a psychological issue, and for a long enough time, a person can have trouble handling it.
5) I don't know wat Helen Keller had to say about this, except that people needed a vision.

Darkness by definition is lack of any light. So it can`t be divided like colors. Black objects absorb all light .So darkness is depicted as black. If a powerful torch is focussed into the eyes of those who are not born totally blind ,the light stimulates retina and occipital cortex of brain interprets some visual sense.
And who is HELEN KELLER?

light is composed of different colours, yes, as you have said, the ROY G. BIV of the rainbow. since darkness is a manifestation of the absence of light, it is correct to say that colours are also absent. so, darkness has no colour. if you have no color in darkness, there is nothing to be divided.
