This is a question about culture and movies. I am looking for several foreign movies that are familiar to Americans, but contain elements of the movie that most Americans didn't understand because it was made for a different culture. Do you know how some things are understood within a culture, but might be missed by those outside the culture?
The only example I can think of is in House of Flying Daggers, when the main characters begin to fight in the large field near the end of the movie. It begins to snow in the middle of summer, which signifies the death of the people at the hideout. Even though it doesn't show the people in the hideout dying, everyone who knows Chinese culture knows what has happened.
This is for a university project. Thanks!
