anything that makes them seem normal- meaning books about strange people. every teenage tinks they are different/special. thats why they embrace a culture during this time. i remember having to read stuff about greasers and disco growing up in the 90s because the teachers thought they were "cool". robert cormier has a series of great teen books, they are from the 70s, but written so they could take place at any time. "a confederacy of dunces" is quite possibly the best teen angst book told from the viewpoint of a 35 year old man ever written. shakespere is dated, he had is time-grad students can cover him. high school kids just need a book. if they are unresponsive to books they never heard of, go with movies they heard of. da vinci code follows the book like a dog follows an ashtray (i know- means nothing, but gets the point across) kids might like the movie, but love the book. worked for me and the outsiders

~I wouldn't recommend a "dramatic, romantic, thriller" to a teenager. I would recommend actual quality literature, such as Kurt Vonnegut, Aynn Rand, Ken Kesey, Gabriel Marquez, Mark Twain, Jacqueline Susann, Thomas Wolfe, Harold Robbins, Jonathan Swift, Hank Ketchum, Ray Bradbury, or John Ellison, and the list goes on.

I would suggest Peeps and Last days (Last Days being the sequel) by Scott Westerfeld. Peeps was great and I'm about fifty pages into the sequel.

Also there is a new series by Melissa de la Cruz about vampires in New York City...the first is called Blue Bloods. It is very good.
