When a clothing label states dry flat or lay flat to dry, what does that mean? What is the best way to dry it?

What happens if it isn't followed?

If it's a sweater or top, I usually lay mine on a towel over the back of the couch, or staircase, and then turn it over every so often...AFTER I fluff it in the dryer without any heat, just to get out some of the water. IF you've machine washed it, you won't have to fluff, because it will spin out the excess water in the last wash/rinse cycle. They also have regular "drying racks" for sale too.

It means to that you need to lay it on a flat surface and let it dry, lay it on an irioning board, the top of the dryer, a table or something like that. DO NOT put it in the dryer!! Most sweaters and some other garments say to lay flat to dry on the tag.

if a sweater says dry flat I use the top of the dryer putting it down on a towel and block into shape. The heat from running the dryer speeds drying time.
