My friends and I are thinking of starting a cleaning business for commercial, but we don't know where to start. How much do we charge to clean an office or office building for sq ft for the basics such as vacum, sweep, wipe down, dust, bathrooms, etc. What's the best way to get our name out there? Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!

Here are some basics for you that would help:
Range per sft is 0.08cent to 0.16cents/sq ft to clean. It all depends on the size of the building, and alot of other things.

One other way to figure out how long would it take to thorough cleaning (vacuum, wipe down, load supplies, clean restrooms, etc)...the formula is 3,750 sf/man hour. So if a building is 50,000 sf, it would take 13.3 man hrs per night to do the entire building.

To get your name out do the following:
license, insurance and bond
good website
become member of BBB and local chamber
network..network..network
start small, slowly go big.

Last but no least come and join GCA (Global Cleaning Association) to learn more and get help. Good luck.

Get licensed and bonded. No reputable businesses or home-owners will work with you if you are not. With a large company in approximately 300,000 sq ft building for a crew of 4 at night and one day person we pay around $29,500 per month, not including supplies, i.e. toilet paper, seat covers, etc. Start out with small businesses, drop of flyers, business cards, etc. If you are good, word will spread, or once you are established and you have references you can approach larger companies. Good luck!

Charge hourly for your services. I know someone who does that exact thing, and she charges $20 an hour.
