It isn't always a criminal offense. If you are a minor, your parents can open any mail that comes in the name of the child.

Other than that, is isn't legal. Even if your spouse get mail, the other spouse is technically not supposed to open it. But, that isn't an issue unless someone makes it an issue.

That's a Federal offense.
I complained to the Post Office (Post Master General?) about my mail being opened/stolen. They sent officers in with guns.

It depends. If they do not have a direct relationship which enables them to do so, under a prescribed duty, then the answer is NO. However, frequently you will find in business relationships such a prescribed duty (by job description!). Also, the parents of a minor have such a relationship, for example.

It is illegal to hack into someones email and get their password and check their email that way. But if someone willingly gives you their password, I do not see nothing wrong with it. As long as your not doing anything you shouldnt be doing!
