The BIG DEAL in modern history is, that in 1928, the people we now know as Israeli moved back into "The Promised Land" which at that time was known as TransJordan. It was nothing more than malaria infested swamp land. They drained the swamps, cleared the land and began to build. As things progressed, the muslims from Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon began to move in. Initialy, there was peace among the people. Then, oil was discovered, and with it, peace was lost. The British, who "owned" the region as a colony for some unexplained reason, decided to side with the muslims.
So, all the while the Israelis are and were attempting to build and make better, the muslims and the Arab neighbors have been fighting to tear down and put asunder. When after WW II, the country of Israel was formally declared and recognized, those same muslims and their Arab neighbors immediately declared war and have vowed ever since to finish what Hitler had started.
The Jewish Israeli people and their government have simply tried to protect themselves from the muslim Israeli citizens and those aggressive countries that surround them. The Gaza and West Banks were won when those same aggressors attacked in 1967 in what is now called "The Six Day War." The land was won fair and square and it was at that moment, that the "Palestinian" people were born. They lived as nomads in those regions and were told by the aggressors to just hang tight, that as soon as they had inhiliated the Jews, the land would be theirs for the taking. It didn't work out and the people were then disowned by their own countries. As those "Palestinians" committed their acts of terror against the Jewish counterparts, the Jewish government imposed sanction after sanction to try and persuade them to live in peace. The western contries have all put pressure upon the Jewish government to ease the sanctions and to even give back the Gaza -- all with the promise from the "Palestinians" that they would guaranty peace. Funny, the mindset from the Palestinian and Arab side has always been that any giving that Israel does is weakness. Give an inch, take a mile. They (the Arabs and "Palestinians") do not want peace, nor do they want their own country. These, they could have had decades ago. And the true irony is, that while Israel was born out of the Holocaust, where there was an attempt at genocide to rid the world of Judeism, the Arabs and the "Palestinians" will force the issue that the only way for the world to see peace in that region, is for the Israelis to either succumb to or commit genocide. Can the two live in peace? Yes, but it is truly doubtful.
