It was pretty painful. Scale of 1-10 I would definately say a 10. Both my labors where short however and both my babies were premies so I guess the pain I had was pretty tame compared to some women who can labor for 24 hours or so. Gosh just the short time I had the pain was enouph for me. It is amazing tho how quickly it goes away once that baby is born. Except maybe for the pain apon urination of a ripped vagina.

The pain is intense, but it is manageable and survivable. If it weren't, everyone would have just one child because the women wouldn't be willing to go through it a second time. Some women handle it better than others, some use anesthetic, some don't. Just remember, they don't give out medals for having a "natural" childbirth or for "handling the pain." The most important thing is to make sure you are comfortable and healthy and that your child arrives safely.

Half of pain is fear, so keep asking questions until you are no longer afraid. Take a childbirth class. The Bradley method has a high success rate for natural childbirth. Tensing up makes it worse, and increases the chance of tearing.
Labor feels like the worst period you have ever had. Cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. are normal. Delivery feels like trying to have a bowel movement when you are very constipated.

On a scale of 1 to 10, try 25! Let me put it this way, you do NOT want to be caught away from medical care and the painkillers! Natural birth is the best form of birth control there is because anyone that does it without being knocked out first will never want to risk having another one that way!

That varies from person to person, and even between one child and the next. Of course, the shorter the labor, the better. I was extremely lucky with my youngest child, they gave me an epidural before I was actually in hard labor, so I was relaxed and able to enjoy the birth.
They say that labor is the worst pain one will ever feel--but the fastest to forget.

Put it this way...its something that you never experienced pain wise even with a little Demerol....but its a pain you will NEVER forget. My first child was 6lbs...2nd was 8lbs...I am 5'3 114 and delivered vaginal.....OMG....2nd child I was in labor from 12am to 10 am then delivered induced. I recently had gall bladder pain...and had to have it removed...that pain brought me back to labor. It has a beautiful outcome..but with today's technology you would think there would be an easier way besides a c-section and scar.

Frankly it varies. It depends on the woman, the child, and the coach/doula/midwife/doctor. Every labour is different.
