I have a coworker who is in divorce and her hubby is asking for alimony......sure, she makes (lots) more than him but she worked her a$$ off to get an education and get the job that she has and he is, well, lazy and unmotivated. Thinks everything should be handed to him.

Just curious if anyone knows of a woman having to pay alimony to a man.

It happens from time to time. Women do it every day. I don't really see a man doing it as any different than a woman doing it, depending on if there's children and the reason they're divorcing. I've seen women have to pay out, but to be honest, alot of those times it was well-founded. Alot of men work their @$$es off only to have women occasionally marry them just for that reason, divorce them, and attempt to take it all. I'm female, just so you don't feel that this is biased. I just think it's a two way street, and everyone overuses it.

Yes, there are many women who pay alimony. It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with money and lifestyle. If she's leaving him, he has the right to ask for alimony so he can continue to live the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed.

It's just that historically it was given to women because most women didn't work, they were homemakers. Also, women typically make less then men.

But in this case, the judge could award him alimony...but he has to prove he needs it.

If a man has to pay alimony to an ex-wive who makes less than he does, why can't the reverse happen? Unfortunately for this lady, he is probably going to get alimony since he nows wants to continue living the lifestyle he had with the rich wife. Gold-diggers are just females!!

It happens a lot. And I might add.....there are a lot of lazy and unmotivated women out there who think everything should be handed to them by their ex's who worked their ****** off to get an education and get the job that they have. Goes both ways hun.

Unless you are a sexist, what is wrong with it? Would your question exist if it was her going after the alimony? They don't say "what is yours is mine and what is mine is yours" for nothing. It doesn't matter who made the money in the marriage. It is his just as much as it is hers. Sorry if she did marry a loser but that is her mistake and she will have to live with that just as a man would.

I don't know what lead up to their divorce but if she was at fault she should have to pay just like most all men have to pay. It's time the courts started looking at how unfair the system is.

women who are the same as him get paid so it is only fair. some men work their asses off to get what they have and the woman takes it from them in court. its about time a man did the same to a woman

Personally I think that alimony is outdated and nobody should have to pay it anymore, but fair is fair and it should go both ways if we have to have it.

Yup it happens when the man of the house was more of a "homemaker" instead of a "breadwinner."

And men have been complaining about that same scenario for years in reverse.
