If you take just the Hoover dam tour it will take right at 5 hours from your hotel, back to your hotel, they give you 2 hours at the dam...

The better tour IMHO is the one where you get to take a cruise on Lake Mead on top of the Hoover dam tour. This one takes right at 8 hours, hotel to hotel...

There are several tour companies, they all advertise in the Las Vegas magazines you will find in your room or around the hotel..
Magazines such as "Today in Las Vegas" "Las Vegas 24/7" "Showbiz" - The tour co. all offer "deals" and "coupons"

I don't recall the name of the co we used, but it was a pretty nice tour and the driver was cool. On the way to the dam he noticed that a bunch of rams had come down out of the mountains to feed in this little park. He ask if everyone would like to stop, so what the heck, we made an extra stop and got some great photos...

Later: I found the company we went with "Grand Tours"

We took the short tour the first time, the one where they stop at the Ethel M Chocolate Factory on the way down to Hoover Dam. The Cactus garden at Ethel M is unbelievable. This tour is only $25

The drive from Las Vegas to Hoover Dam is a little less than an hour. You can take your time looking around and stop wherever you want to eat. There are a few casinos out there but I haven't been to any of them.

The tour itself is not even an hour. I don't remember how long but it was fairly short.

I would say two hours MAX is enough to see everything. There's not much there...

We were there in December. It took an hour to get the last 5 miles. Security post 911 has them clamp down down hard. You have to pay $15 for parking and it was crowded. By the time we got there we decided to forget about going on the tour because we were mad about being stuck in traffic for so long.
