Overcrowding made for unhygenic conditions, infectious diseases spread. Increased traffic due to population surges also made for problems in traffic congestion (Horse drawn traffic!) and movement of large volumes of people along narrow streets. Population density created problems that were previously unknown on such a scale. Law and order issues made it necessary for the establishment of constabularies. Jails became overcrowded.

Polution of rivers in cities made the main source of drinking water filthy and disease carrying. (The Thames in London would have been like the Ganges today!)...infact it's never recovered!

Air pollution was a major problem.Smog developed, from a greater population living in a smaller area, from coal burning factories, and domestic fires.

look at the amish. they do things right! or the catholic homeschoolers, in skirts, and lots of kids. yup, that is normal, everything else is weird!!!!!
