what were those old movie theatres called where you had to wear glasses to watch the movie?

They glasses were for 3-D movies, a big fad during the '50's. The movies were played in normal theaters and 3-D scenes had extra images in red and green that gave the stereoscopic images.

Nickelodeon parlors were originally filled with little movie machines that allowed a single person to watch part of a movie using a hand-crank and a lightbulb. The machines looked like the cross between a slot-machine and a microscope. Once movie projectors were perfected, the parlor cleared out the machines and put in seats-admission was a nickle (the same price as a beer at a bar or a loaf of bread).
