Sometimes the baby can measure small and measure younger but not normally by more than a few weeks unless their are genetic factors involved.

I have the same problem! It's hard for them to tell though if you don't have a LMP (I miscarried so i never had a period between the miscarriage & this pregnancy) I am fed up with it though so I am seeking a second opinion because i have trouble talking to my doctors - i never see the same one twice & the process is just an in-and-out as fast as possible thing - best advice I have recieved is getting a second opinion & new dr.- Try talking to your doctor though and expressing your concern - if that doesn't work or you feel uncomfortable asking (you shouldn't) seek a new one - it's never too late- you need to feel taken care of, you deserve it! But I doubt anything is wrong - its just a matter of it being hard to tell if your LMP wasn't correct(sometimes some women even have a period or two WHILE they are pregnant and not know it)

I knew the date of conception as well as the date of the last period. My doctor relied on the ultrasound, which changed my due date every time I went in. Ultrasound and other measurements should only be used to monitor you. My doctor freaked out because I wasn't following "the curve" exactly and tried to induce labor 3 weeks early. I was so fed up by that time that I went with a midwife instead.

If you know when your last period was, calculate your due date yourself. You are full term at 38 weeks. Most women deliver around 42 weeks. 40 weeks is the average between the two. Avoid any doctor that wants to "move things along" based on your due date.

They should be able to nail the conception date and date of birth. I would get another Doctor at this point. Don't start your pregnancy with any uncertainty with them. You won't trust them and will make for a unpleasant experience for the next 9 months. I am just finishing OBGYN school. Let me know if I can help with anything more.

A short true story~~~my brother and sister-in-law tried everything to have a baby. They went to many drs., did everything they suggested, to no avail. I even suggested she stood on her head, theory-everything flows down hill, after they had sex but nothing. After around 5 yrs. of disappointments she decided to just give up-it was not to be. She maked an appointment to get back on birth control pills to regulate her periods, and low and behold she was pregnant. Moral of the story~~~when she stopped stressing and worrying about why she wasn't getting pregnant, it happened. Maybe if you just relax and enjoy time with your husband instead of thinking trying to conceive, it will happen. It may sound stupid but it works. It also happened to my aunt years ago. They had already went through all the legal aspects of adoption because she couldn't get pregnant. The last step was to have their physicals and poof, she was pregnant~~with twins! I swear both these stories are the truth and I know they don't help you get pregnant but maybe it will help you see that stressing out over it may be part of the cause. I wish you the best of luck and you are in my prayers.

Were you able to provide the dates of your last period? Otherwise it is all guesswork! Ultrasound will give you some indication in accordance with expected development scales. But once again it is not accurate to the dot.Even blood tests to look at levels of hormone are not conclusive on fetal age. Each person is slightly different so it can only ever be an approximation.
NB:
Doctors are not stupid, nor are they infalible! They can only do the best with the information provided to them. Those that make comments such as that are possibly immature. I wonder who treats their illness when they are sick?

Your doctor may schedule an ultrasound to get an accurate due date. If you had irregular periods, it may be more difficult to tell exactly how far along you are, but your doctor should be able to make an educated guess.

Your doctor can only go by what you tell him or her. They go by the last date of your period. Other than that they will do an ultrasound or blood test that can tell you specifically how for along you are.
