First convert the units. Multiply 1100 feet by 1 mile/5280 feet and multiply 40 seconds by 1 minute/60 seconds by 1 hour/60 minutes. Then divide miles by hours.

In 40 seconds the skier goes 1100 feet, so how far would the skier go in an hour.

3600 seconds in an hour divide 40 seconds = 90.

1100 feet x 90 = 99,000 - the number of feet the skier would travel in an hour.

This needs to be converted into miles per hour.

Divide 99,000 by 5280 (feet in a mile) = 18.75 mph

Do the distance(1100 feet) divided by the time(40 sec.).

1 100 feet = 0.208 333 333 mile
40 second = 0.0111111 hour
0.208 333 333 mile/0.0111111 hour = 18.75m/h
