If you think that it is too high. the energy company can do out and do an analysis to see if there are areas that you are wasting energy in. I would gladly trade you utility bills. We live in a 1800 sq ft home, have a gas burning stove for heat, a spa and it is just 2 of us. On average we probably spend $4200 a year, try to limit a/c in the summer, but still have to use it.

Depends on where the house is located. In a nice sunny state I would really lean towards solar heating systems. There is always geothermal as well. Natural gas is an option if you life someplace that has gas service. Alot of natural gas companies are offering rebates if you install energy star appliances and incentives to insulate and use less gas. Electricity is always an option but seems to be costlier and not as "warm feeling" I live in the country in the middle of Indiana and use propane to heat my home. Not my number 1 choice but it is whats available at the time.

Lessee, that's an avg of $233/mo.... probably higher in summer, less in winter.... I'd say it sounds a bit high to me, based upon the square footage and the myriad of houses I've owned, cooled, and heated.

There are too many variables to consider. It is not impossible to spend that much. How many people live there ? What is the area climate ? Electric everything ? (Stove, Water heater, Clothes dryer, Electric Heat or Heat pump ?)

.........It is a lot of money but I could do it.......

Sounds pretty high to me, unless your electric rate is 22 cents per kilowatt or higher.
I heat and cool 2500 sq. ft. on all electric for $1165/yr.

That is way too much! Where do you live? We have about 1800 square feet and we pay just under $2000/year.

VERY REASONABLE!
We pay an average between 3200 and 3400
a year, and we also have an 1800sq ft home.
I guess it all depends on where you live and what type of insulation you have..
But i think 2800 a year is really 'lower' than average.

That sounds reasonable. It all depends on where you live. I am paying about $2300 a year for 1100 square feet.
