I've been reading the Special Guests section and they all ask about ways to fix the world. People give advice but I'm not sure they ever do anything themselves. For example, in school we have discussions why kids don't work hard and don't care. The teacher calls on us, the students, and they express their thoughts on the subject and it's hilarious. Listening to somebody who doesn't work hard, they work just not hard, talk about why OTHER kids don't work hard. It's hard to explain, but hopefully you get it. Then the gov't talks about all the subjects, global warming, poverty, war, and know they're problems but don't take action. It's pointless to just talk about something if you don't actually do anything about it, including people. Why doesn't the gov't and the people somehow work together to fix problems. If nobody does anything, I should start a group to fix these problems. But that wouldn't be enough it's up to the individual, why don't people change THEMSELVES to change the world?

I dont know the answer to that but I can guess. Most people go to work 40+ hours a week, come home and then deal with spouse and kids and that takes a lot out of them. Most people want to use their free time to relax, not solve world problems. Some have jobs where they work harder than others but any job causes stress. People are just tired.

I think most feel that their effort to help their fellow man is important, but then they see that their effort has such a tiny little effect that they start to feel there's no point in trying. In the not too distant past people knew that they could go to the church for help, for answers to questions like this. But religion is being attacked today and churches are losing their standing as havens of truth and security. That's why religion being torn down by people like Richard Dawkins is so detrimental to the world, because without a spiritual as well as logical basis for acting on our concerns we only have the fact that our effort is so small compared to the vastness of the problems we see, which leaves us accepting the status quo. The belief in God who is merciful and kind causes people to act out of compassion and helping others becomes a reality rather than a dream.

Laziness.

Comparing the short-term benefits with the long-term ones, the short-term ones sometimes beat all.

More 'pressing' matters to attend to.

Leaving it to others, saying is walys easier than attempting.

Inferior mindset, don't think they will make any difference.

Selfish mindset, think by the time this is resolved they'd have long died...so why bother?

Belief in miracles.

Yep, all of the above and more.
