Five weeks is just to early. If you have a tilted uterus, you'll generally see the baby by nine weeks and with a normal forward leaning uterus, you generally see the baby by seven weeks. Of course there are exceptions and some women see the baby later. Seriously, a blighted ovum should not even be suggested until 8 or 9 weeks.

If you want to read about women who saw their babies later than most, go to www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com Many of their doctors told them they were miscarrying because they couldn't see the baby by six or seven weeks and the doctors were wrong.

Hope this helps.

I had a vaginal ultrasound at five weeks to confirm pregnancy because I had a positive pregnancy test with an IUD. The doctor only saw the sac, but said everything was looking good. When I went back at six weeks, he was able to see the baby and the flashing of the heart beat. Are you supposed to go back soon for another ultrasound? Even a week can make a difference between seeing just a sac and seeing the baby and heartbeat. Good luck to you.

Had this with my first pregnancy and the doc did an immediate D&C. I wish I had waited another week or two to be sure- turns out that I ovulate late, so 5 weeks from LMP wasn't necessarily 5 weeks gestation. Hang in there.

It is very common just to see a sac at 5 weeks gestation as the fetus is still VERY tiny. I hope everything goes well for you : )
