Hey, I found a video of them for you.. http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_3125592,00.html (it's near the bottom).

I have a hard time understanding the bobble pattern written too. I haven't attempted any projects with them... yet,

Making a bobble always sounds harder than it is. You are basically increasing several times into a single stitch and working only on those increases. Insert your right needle into the stitch on the left needle and wrap a new stitch, do not remove the old stitch from the left needle, but bring your yarn forward and now purl into that stitch, bring the yarn back and knit into it, yarn forward and purl into it, yarn back and knit into it one final time (alternatively you can knit, yo, knit, yo, knit into this stitch). Now, turn it around and purl these 5 stitches, turn again and knit them, turn again and purl them. Take the stitch furthest away from the point of the right needle and pull it up and over the other 4 stitches and off the needle as if binding off, then take each next stitch over and off until you have one stitch of the bobble left on the right hand needle and continue knitting across your row. After you do a couple of these you'll find it isn't difficult.

Do you mean a bobbin in order to do designs in a piece? If so, a peice of cardboard with ends notched outwardly will do. If you mean a fringe ball, they should sell them at a good craft store...hobby lobby, michaels, mary maxims, depending on you area.
