My betta has been staying on top of the water surface.. alll day just sitting there. H e barely swims. Just bloows his bubbles in the corner.. and no.. there is no female so he wouldnt try to make a nest. Hes forming some white stuff around his face and body.. he even looks sad!!! i dont know what to do.. >< please tell me what is happening to him and how can i help?

Actually he will blow a nest even without a female around and that sounds exactly like what he is doing. As for the white stuff on his face and body, look very closely, maybe with a flashlight and see if maybe that isn't a coating of very fine small bubbles.

I think you fish is probably just fine, but watch him a day or so and if he does anything else strange drop me a line and I'll try to help

the person above me is correct about him making a bubble nest even without a female there. he may even be right about the white being bubbles. it's hard to tell without more detail.

is the whiteness cottony or spiderweb like? is it like grains of salt? or a fine powder? or is it just discoloration? please give more info.
