Now already it can be considered a cult: you have a central figure in it (the DJ, MC); you have various means of changing the state of mind (often use of drugs, loud, low pitched repeating sounds); ceremony (dancing, light effects) and all for the sake of feeling the spirit of unity and worshiping (where worshiping would be directed to technocraty and, in a way, science - the drugs are often synthetic, the sound and the light are very often electronic and, partially, mechanic, the central figure acts as a contact between the worshipers and their goal). Since all of this (a central figure, changing the state of mind and ceremony) can be found, with the exact same purpose, in many early, and even contemporary cults, and since we know that a cult can develope into a religion, or become a part of some religion, do you think this could happen to techno (culture)? Also, would you agree that right now, it is a cult?

I perfectly understand your question and your point. I've experienced the scene exactly as you describe and it's an unusual "religious type" of experience but NO, it cannot become a religion. When I say religious type, I’m referring to the feeling you get, in that kind of atmosphere. Everyone is happy; free like a bird and smiling. I think of it more as spiritual revelation within a sub-culture; to FREE your mind and become harmonious. I hope it never die.....and if it could become a religion, I would be upset. It would probably kill the fun if you think about it.

Techno is a spiritual type of movement in my eyes which I invite everyone to experience once in their life. Young and old alike...it is a place where racism is non-existent. You dress like you want and speak to whomever you want , you can love everyone as everyone is full of love. For one time in this moment no one feels like a slave to the world......but all are enjoying the experience without boundaries.

There are many drug free people there, I being one of them, able to achieve this elevated high. Yes, it is quite spiritual but no, it cannot become a religion unless certain things become legalized.

Is it a cult? I can't say that it is a cult although it appears quite cultish to some degree. Techno is basically music, as you described, with a rich culture of all demographical types. There are people from various lifestyles, personal beliefs, and ethnicities who come together for that moment to celebrate life. Have you ever heard of “The Burning Man?” that too might be thought of as a type of cult; similar to the biblical story of the golden calf. You can call it modern day paganism, but a cult, no because people arent flocking together to worship anything. Techno is only a type of music that anyone can enjoy with the prospect of self realization. It’s not a religious practice in any way but a spiritual movement, definitely.

I like that question.

a team can exchange right into a faith. a faith can exchange right into a cult. yet no longer different way around. (as cults are extremist, frequently destructive) A smaller non secular team that is valuable to all people be noted as a sect. yet techno would desire to truly exchange right into a faith... A transcendental sect if needed to. Why do no longer you initiate this sect then?

People are created....we long to worship.......what you describe IS religion for it's followers. Your logic is sound....people need to know what or who they worship though....it will only ever be just an addiction if the object of worship is not the true God above all. If while experimenting with 'keys of this world' (substances, music, and trance.Among many) You worship God (for lack of the word that does 'it' justice) Then you will drift from the 'false religion' of said example and draw near to GOD.

Religion seems to me to be that man made thing that gives us the 'feeling' of being near to nirvana...I used to refer to dancing to jam bands as going to church. Golfers are religious about golfing.....fisher men about fishing......artists about art........just part of life and finding meaning.....and finding God....these ARE ALL METAPHORS FOR THE SEARCH...GOD IS CALLING ALL OF US IN WHATEVER WAY WE'LL ANSWER......GOD IS LOVE.

Hmmm. Probably. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if there is a Church of Techno" somewhere. I mean, there's a "Church of Elvis" and "Jediism," why not?
