i saw a programme on ABC2 this afternoon about New Guinea and this particular bird caught my attention. it is black and iridescent blue. I tried to look it up on the web and the closest seems to be the male Victoria's Riflebird. But I am sure the bird I saw has a bigger and more prominent iridescent blue patch.

can anyone enlighten me? thanks

There are two or three birds of paradise with iridescent blue patches including the blue bird of paradise and the superb bird of paradise. It is most likely to be one of those. The riflebirds, although birds of paradise, are dull by comparison.
