Both are very strong currently and historically. Check out the below link to the Industry Periodical Virus Bulletin for specific information. Virus Bulletin frequently puts most major Anti-Virus packages through their paces and both usually do very well.

I agree with your other answers that McAfee and Norton do much the same but have some differences. It is also a well known fact that both tend to interfere with other programs, especially when installing a new program.

Computer Associates (CA) has a program called Internet Security Suite. It has spam control, anti-virus,firewall and spyware. In addition, it is the least controlling of any program out there that I have been involved with. I have had both Norton and McAfee and they are very controlling.

God Bless You :)

The first answer is correct. Kaspersky is the best AV program on the market. This site showing the results of independent tests backs that up:

The above doesn't anwer your question.

Between those two, Norton is the better. Norton does detect and remove more infections than McAfee.

Kaperksy

Norton is way overpriced for the service it provides. Especially considering that you have to purchase a new license every six months or so just to get more updates. You've already paid for the software and, unless you're upgrading to a new version, the updates should be free. Hell, they should be free regardless.
Norton allows certain 'government spyware' to bypass it's system protection. I consider this to be very shady. Also, Norton is known to only update it's virus database once a week - while other AntiVirus utilities update multiple times daily (including Kaperksy and BitDefender. Also, BitDefender includes built-in firewall protection rather than needing to install a separate application).
Norton is extremely difficult to uninstall in some cases, and has required users to download a separate patch to remove registry entries and modifications to critical system files that seemed unnecessary to begin with.
Norton is extremely system-intrusive, and can cause some systems that would normally perform just fine to slow to a halt after running it's products.
Norton is not compatible with certain other utility software, and requires that software to be removed before it will allow you to install or run Norton AntiVirus.

Neither one is better than the other - they do different things. They both detect different viruses but a few of the same. Norton Severly bogs down your system, yet McaFee lacks all of the repair features that Norton has.

According to me Anti virus depends upon Your use. If you are using a workstation with high configuration and working on network with sophisticated data then you should use Norton Anti virus because It is very sensitive with Network Security and If you are using Home PC then mcafee is best solution. mcafeeis not consuming so much CPU Time with comparasion to Norton.
Choose your antivirus according to your use.

I instructed him what replaced into happening and the techy instructed me that it replaced right into a spyware. He transferred me to a various branch and that they instructed me that they could get rid of it for me for 109 funds. definite! 109 funds. I have been given on youtube and hunted for the spyware and this extraordinary fellow walked me via it with in 30 seconds and that i had it long previous. think of that 109 funds, what, does Norton's makes those sprywares or something.

Have used both but prefer mcafee, because I kept having problems with norton forgetting how to update and then wanting to be uninstalled so that I could reinstall it only to have to uninstall it because it would forget how to update. I have never had problems with Mcafee knock on wood..
