I live in Coppell - very nice area with great schools. Taxes are a bit high, but that is pretty common for most northern suburbs.
I place part of that on the fact that there is no state income tax in Texas. Coppell borders Carrolton, Grapevine, Lewisville and Farmers Branch. Very close to DFW airport, lots of shopping and restaurants. I also like the Plano - Frisco area, which is the real growth area right now. Personally for me though - I travel by air most every week, and that area is an hour to the airport at times.
Good Luck in your decision.

I've lived in Richardson and Plano. All the towns north of 635 are pretty nice, not too different from eachother other than location. Taxes come into play if you are buying a home, some of the cities are very different from others.

I lived in houston before this and I would never move back there, Dallas is much better.

They are all great. You might want to put Richardson and Garland (both near Plano) to your list as well. Farmers Branch is near Carrollton.

By the way, all those communities are served by the DART high speed trains to downtown Dallas, in case you'd like to "park and ride".
