How can you consider the media as a collective entity as if they all look at various issues on equal scale of merits, ethics or other standards.. It is always the case that every news event is viewed in different angles by different people and presented in the way they perceive it in their medium.. And that exactly is what the public want to know as well - the different possiblities of seeing things that may have more than what is apparent in the bare news - the probable hidden sides / the untold track records of those involved / the significance in different contexts / and soforth...

So dont complain the media... we may not agree with all of them, but definitely take some cues from each and make our own assessment of each issue... For eg (example only) a leftist magazine would highlight the plus point of the labour in an issue involving the labour and management and downplay the merits of management arguments... while a right wing paper would highlight the management side merits... the knowledge of both would help the public to know the correct position... Similarly in all cases.

Unfortunately most media are now owned by people who either rule the government (politicians) or the business or a religious institution... one can never get any useful information from them except false praise of their interested institutions and the slanders about their competitors... The traditional impartial media are also drifting in favour of perceived "public interests" and are careful not to say things howsoever true which they think the "public" wont digest and do not hesitate to flash blatantly partial views of celebrities just because their public would like to know things only through the celebrities!

So it is not just dual but multiple characteristic of the commercial media of our times.. where the ideas (so called reviews) sold are not what is right but what is palatable and would be liked by their audience - whose patronage they want for continued existence...!
