It is not a bad thing - it is just a thing to handle the business side of marriage. There is the LOVE side but also the Business side.

If one or the other has a lot of money than a prenup can protect the one wit the money from getting taken by the other.

IT can be good to help clarify what will happen if you do get a divorce instead of fighting about it after.

They sign a pre-nup because they may have an amount of assets that they want to protect in case of a divorce. For instance, you have a man that has had a business for 30 years. He get married to a woman without a prenup. They get divorced after two years. She can take parts of his business in the divorce and vice versa if the woman has assets. It is not a bad thing but it is like using a condom. You protect yourself.

Because they wish to protect their assets from gold diggers. Like it or not there are some out there.

No it is not a bad thing. It isn't romantic, but in some cases it does make sense.

Example: Let's say that I'm dating a well known movie star. We really are a good match together. We have the same goals and ideas about how life should be lived. We are in love and willing to be fully committed to each other. He brings up the pre-nup to protect the assets he procured prior to marriage. I would then take the pre-nup to my lawyer to look it over and make sure it is fair to both parties and explicit on what should happen in case a divorce (God forbid) takes place.

A pre-nup doesn't necessarily mean that the couple is inevitably going to get a divorce.

A pre-nup can determine how money is handled during the marriage. Both people can say how much of their salary is going to be invested, how much is going to be put into checking/savings, who pays which bills, what happens in case of a job loss, and how money decisions are made.

Actually its called a pre-nup, meaning prenuptial. It's a legal document that protects both the wife and husband, so if they were to divorce they would go out with what they came in with. It basically protects you from getting screwed over after a divorce.

no! its not a bad thing. well, this pre-nup means; you have to sign in an agreement that after you marry that whatever happened to him/her (in case he/she will die), his/her wealth or properties will not be going to you. (pre-nup happened especially if you marry a very wealthy person)

a prenupt can only hurt the person going into the marriage for the wrong reasons, why work your entire life for asset's only to loose it in a divorce. they want a prenupt to protect them from loosing their money if the marriage should turn sour.had a friend who married after many years of being a widower, the new wife insisted he put her name on the deed to the property, he did so, after only about 2 years of marriage, she began picking fights, doing drugs, drinking alot, becoming physically violent, and wanted a divorce, well she ended up owning half of his property, he had to pay her on a property he owned outright, now he has payments again, is now retired, living on a fixed income, and finding himself a bit financially hurting. so prenup's protect us from goldiggers out to get what they can get.
