I gave birth to a 9.8 lb little girl, and she has an appetite that just keeps growing very rapidly. We feed her with breastmilk via the bottle due to latching concerns, but I breastfeed her from time to time, and man does she go to town. She has healthy bowel movements, and urinates regularly, but I still worry that she may be overfeeding. Right now we are feeding her 4-5 oz per feeding every 2-3 hours a day, and up to 6 oz every 3-4 hours during the night. That is up from the 2-3 oz she was drinking during the first week! Even though the pediatrician says this is ok, since its breastmilk, I still worry she is eating just too much considering her age.

If a baby is being fed too much - by bottle or breast, much of it will just come right back up. If you are feeding on demand, when she needs you/milk then she should be fine. At 2 weeks your baby is helping you establish a healthy milk supply - frequent nursings (or needing you to pump often to keep up with her) is helping train your body to meet her needs. Way to go momma, giving that baby girl the healthy milk she needs!

It's ok for breast fed babies to feed every 2-3 hours. There isn't a certain amount of breastmilk they should be consuming because usually after latching on to the breast, they fall asleep once they are finished. In your case let your baby have as much breastmilk as he/she wants. Breastmilk is much easier digested than formula because it isn't derived from cow's milk and it is your milk. These babies have more frequent bowel movements because the milk is easily digested. Don't worry because your baby tolerates your milk without any problems, so don't limit the feedings.

You cannot over feed a breastfed infant. if she takes in too much milk, it will come right back out and you will be covered in spitup!-) She will be having lots of growth spurts in this first year. If she "goes to town" when you feed her at the breast, then try to do that and only use the bottles in rare instances.

Some things to remember: growth charts were designed around fake fed babies, so disregard them. If she is gaining and filling those dipes, then she is fine!
Second: babies need to eat on their own schedules. Babies who are forced onto a schedule learn to disregard their natural hunger and fullness cues.

It's just not possible for a baby to drink 'too much' breastmilk. They eat when they are hungry (even every 15 minutes is normal and healthy!), stop when they are full, and repeat as necessary. Keep doing what you are doing (and it's better for her facial bone and muscle development if you can nurse her, and avoid the bottle as much as possible).

considering her age, what about considering her weight? I had a 9lb5oz son who use to be short and chubby and he is now 13 125lbs, but he is 5'9 1/2 so what do you think can happen to your little girl. If she is getting to much then GOD will never let you down and your little girl will give you signs.

That is the perfect amount actually. If she doesnt want that much, most likely she just wont take it.
